Dewan Perniagaan Cina Batu Pahat
This white building with impressive architecture was built in 1931 to house the Batu Pahat Chinese Chamber of Commerce. The wide and long veranda helps to cool the building while still allowing light to filter through. The 12-ray sun motif on the gazebo is a motif of the Chinese Tongmenghui, a resistance movement founded by Sun Yat Sen. The building was built by Chew Kee, a famous contractor who also built many pre-war shophouses in Batu Pahat. In 1945, it was here that the armistice between Kiai Salleh Selempang Merah (who was later appointed Simpang Kiri) and other chieftains and the Bintang Tiga party led by Dato Onn was held. Today, many public events including lectures, exhibitions and competitions are held in this building involving the Chinese community in Batu Pahat.
