Galeri Dato Onn

This building was built in 1938, originally as government quarters. It was occupied by Onn Jaafar between 1945 and 1947 when he served as the Batu Pahat District Officer. Later, it was used by the 501st Territorial Regiment, a reserve force of the Malaysian Army, as their training base. It was eventually renovated by the Public Works Department (JKR) and officially handed over to the Johor Heritage Foundation on 6 August 2007. The foundation has retained the design of the building and adapted its function as a dedicated gallery to display the life history of Dato' Onn Jaafar. However, it does not only preserve the history of the great figure of Onn Jaafar, but also houses cultural artefacts originating from Johor such as an impressive collection of betel leaves, silver jewellery and ceramics.

Behind the Name:
To preserve his legacy:, In September 2012, the house was named after Dato’ Onn bin Jaafar which was transformed into a gallery to commemorate his time in Batu Pahat and his contributions.
