Kelab Jepun Lama Batu Pahat
This three-storey building was built in 1925 and is closely linked to the interests of the Japanese nation in Malaya before the Second World War (1941-45). The space on the second floor of this building was rented out to the Japanese Club and it became a gathering place for Japanese people working in and around Batu Pahat to socialize. This building was once inhabited by the famous Japanese poet Kaneko Mitsuharu (1895-1975). Kaneko Mitsuharu's attendance at the 'Japanese Club' was recorded by Junko Tomaru in her book titled 'The Postwar Rapprochement of Malaya and Japan, 1945-61: The roles of Britain and Japan in South-East Asia' which was published in 2000. In the book, there were about 450 Japanese citizens in Batu Pahat at that time.
