Surau India Muslim Selatan Batu Pahat
In Bandar Penggaram, the influence of Indian architecture does not greatly influence the design of the buildings here. However, the South Indian Muslim Mosque is one of the buildings that has a strong influence of South Indian architecture. It was built around 1943 or 1363 Hijrah as stated on the gate of this mosque. The construction of this mosque was the effort of the Indian Muslim community who came from Tamil Nadu in southern India. This Indian Muslim community is of the Hanafi school of thought and speaks Tamil which is still the main language in the delivery of lectures and sermons in this mosque. The Indian Muslim community at that time dominated economic activities by opening shops in this city, especially spice-related businesses. The architecture of this South Indian Muslim Mosque is clearly visible on the 4 minaret pillars with an onion-shaped dome. The Indian Muslim community in this city is active as a group of traders and still maintains customs, language and lifestyles that have been assimilated into the lifestyle of the local community.
