Wisma Sejarah
A small single-storey building known as Wisma Sejarah is the activity centre for members of the Batu Pahat Area Historical Society which originally housed the Bandar Penggaram Police Station. The Police Station was moved in 1937 to the location of the existing Traffic Police Station which is in front of this building. Referring to the 1893 Johor map sourced from the State Library of New South Wales, there were two police stations or also known as ‘rumah pasung’ in this area, namely at Tanjung Telaga, Minyak Beku (facing Pulau Sialu) and Bandar Penggaram (now Wisma Sejarah) which was recorded in 1913. The 1893 Bandar Penggaram Police Station was replaced by a new police station built in 1913. Today, the building has been renovated into Wisma Sejarah which is managed by the Malaysian Historical Society, Batu Pahat Branch. So it is clear that the Batu Pahat ‘police station’ as recorded on the old 1893 map really existed and its function has changed to what it is now.
