Jalan Penggaram

At one time, this street was unofficially called textile street because many traders from mainland China did business in this area. Jalan Penggaram is one of the oldest streets in Batu Pahat, since the city was founded in 1894. On this street there are still rows of shops built around the 1930s with eclectic and art deco architectural styles in addition to having barrier-free sidewalks. Until now, most of the shops here are still operating by selling household items such as school uniforms and equipment, Majapahit equipment, watch shops, curtain and bed sheet shops as well as several gold shops and pawn shops that are still operating. There are also shops that have had their facades renovated, but most of the shops here still maintain the appearance of the original facade design. In the past, Jalan Penggaram was once the main shopping center in this city before that role was taken over by supermarkets that began to be built in this city in the early 1960s.
